Vintage US Navy National Otoscope/Ophthalmoscope Kit

You are bidding on the following item: A vintage US Navy National Brand Otoscope/Ophthalmoscope Kit Stock No. 3-540-800. The hardsided kit is approximately 8.5" by 5.5" by 2". Contents include:

• Battery handle with built-in rheostat (dimmer) capability.
• Otoscope with 3mm, 4mm, 6mm and Nasal Speculums
• Ophthalmoscope
• 7 1/2' rubber cord with female connector assembly and cord tips (plug into battery handle)
• What appears to be an extra cord with the two connector tips and what appears to be similar to an RCA plug at the end.
• 5 large spare bulbs
• 3 small spare bulbs

I put two D batteries into the battery handle and was surprised to find that all of the bulbs in the pieces were working correctly. I do not have an approximate age for the item.

History

My parents have recently downsized into a smaller house. As such, they are having to get rid of a pretty fair amount of items that they have carried around with them for a number of years. I volunteered to list some of the items here on ebay to try to get the best price possible.

This item is one of the things that I volunteered to list. I can't tell you much about the history of the item so you will have to rely on the description to see if it is something you desire. Just guessing, but I think that it used to belong to a friend of the family that passed away many years ago. I have another Navy medical item (check my other auctions) that does have someone's name on it that sounds familar from years ago. I guess I could just ask my parents about the history of the item, but they have enough to worry about with all of the other changes they are dealing with.

Known Issues

You will want to be aware of the following:

• It is obviously used and is quite old. Therefore it may or not be working correctly or accurately.
• I'm not a doctor. Therefore I have no real way of testing whether or not it works correctly or accurately.
• Given the condition and age of the item, I would really expect this to be a display item, rather than a functional item.
• The battery handle has some masking tape wrapped around it with what appears to be a name written on it.

Thanks for stopping by my auction. I have been an ebay member since Sept. 1998. While I haven't bought or sold a lot over the years, all of my feedback so far has been positive. I have accumulated a number of items over the past couple of years that I am now trying to make a concerted effort to part with before the holidays. Of course, my primary motivation for selling the items is to use the money to purchase a new digital camera.

I ship via UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail. Smaller items will go via USPS Priority Mail. Larger items will go via UPS Ground. Once payment is received, I will make every effort to ship the package within 72 hours of auction close.
